San Juan de la Peña

REAL MONASTERIO

Cubierto por la enorme roca que le da nombre, el conjunto, que abarca una amplia
cronología que se inicia en el siglo X, aparece perfectamente mimetizado con su excepcional
entorno natural. En su interior destacan la iglesia prerrománica, las pinturas de San Cosme y
San Damián, del siglo XII, el denominado Panteón de Nobles, la iglesia superior, consagrada
en 1094, y la capilla gótica de San Victorián, pero sobre todo sobresale el magnífico claustro
románico, obra de dos talleres diferentes y el Panteón Real, de estilo neoclásico, erigido en
el último tercio del siglo XVIII.

L´ensemble, situé sur le surplomb du rocher qui lui donne son nom, comprend une vaste
chronologie qui est entamée dans le Xe siècle, et il est parfaitement intégré dans son
exceptionnel environnement naturel .Dans son intérieur se distinguent l'église préromane, les
peintures de Saint Cosme et de Saint Damian, du XIIe siècle, l'appelé Panthéon des Nobles,
l'église supérieure, consacrée en 1094, et la chapelle gothique de Saint Victorian, mais ressort
surtout le cloître roman magnifique, oeuvre de deux ateliers différents. À tout cela il faut
ajouter d'autres bâtiments postérieurs aux siècles médiévaux, entre lesquels il convient
remarquer le Panthéon Réel, de style néoclassique, érigé dans le dernier tiers du XVIIIe siècle.

Covered by the huge rock that gives it its name, the group, that encompasses a wide
chronology that begins in the 10th century, appears perfectly camouflaged with its
exceptional natural environment. In its interior stands out the pre Romanesque church, the
paintings of San Cosme and San Damián, of the 12th century, the designated Pantheon of
Nobles, the superior church, consecrated in 1094, and the Gothic chapel of San Victorián, but
above all stands out the magnificent Romanesque cloister, work of two different workshops
and the Real Pantheon, of neoclassic style, erected in the last third of the 18th century.
